How We Care: Greening and Agriculture

As part of our thrust towards environmental protection and the economic sustainability of our host communities, we have helped create and strengthen Peoples Organizations (POs) as a venue of sharing, dialogue, discussion, learning, and as a channel for services and projects. These mass-based organizations helped empower the community to take collective action against poverty and to pursue development initiatives.

Among our projects in support agriculture and livelihood development are:

  • Training, seminars, and educational tours on food processing, banana, cacao and coffee production, and Sustainable Agriculture
  • The allocation of resources to improve the productivity of farmers; this includes the promotion of planting bananas, cacao, coffee, and fruit trees
  • The distribution of over 500,000 seedlings to interested farmers in host and neighboring barangays through the National Greening Program
  • Working with the local Farmers’ Associations for the distribution of initial farm inputs such as fertilizer, pesticides, tools, and knapsack sprayers
  • Distribution of over 1,000 grafted fruit tree seedlings to over 70 farmers in the host communities; some of the seedlings were planted along the roads of the Ancestral Domains of the Mandaya Tribe in Brgy Macambol as protective and productive measure on the roadside
  • In partnership with Nestle Philippines we encouraged coffee production through the distribution of over 1,000 seedlings and providing the selected beneficiaries with technology training and a marketplace for their produce
